Green
Pastures
In my painting
of "Green Pastures" there are five sheep by an old grain wagon at
the base of Sawtooth Mountain in Polaris, Montana. Two of the sheep are lying
down. Three sheep are grazing. Admittedly I did that for purposes of composition,
but I realized how difficult it is for us to lie down in green pastures. We
often have to be "made to lie down in green pastures." When that
happens, it may not feel like green pastures but more like scorched earth.
It can seem like wasted time to spend hours in bed recovering from an illness,
accident, or operation. It is only later when the time has passed that we
begin to feel the deep peace of being still.
